Sydney Cup Day
Emirates was definitely the place to be on the crisp Sydney Cup Day at Royal Randwick because it had some fascinating men including Elle’s supposed beau, Dave Evans – who was not drinking and looked ever so slightly spivvy in his light coloured tie. Also not drinking was Olympic sprinter Linford Christie who also doesn’t bet and isn’t too keen on scoffing canapes. He wasn’t really much fun for Jane Fleming to take to the races – really – except that his nickname (not printable here) shows that he may have other attributes… Having the best time of all was wheeler dealer Joe Cross, who is celebrating his 40th birthday right around the world starting off in London, in July. (He invited me, how sweet was that? I just have to find my own way there and back.) Joe Cross also vowed to try Emirates first class suites after accepting the airline’s hospitality on Cup Day. That shows impeccable manners.
Also making the scene at Emirates, star chef Luke Mangan with no sign of publicist girlfriend, Elizabeth Drysdale – and super sweet cosmetics queen Tali Shine. She has made several visits to the Top Of The Rise area – Randwick’s answer to Flemington’s Birdcage – but this time she did not cross paths with the man she has flirted with on several occasions – media princling, Ryan Stokes…

Sydney Derby Day
Saturday’s Derby Day at Royal Randwick bought out extremes of behaviour in everyone – from skyscraper sized model Sophie Ward in a Philip Treacey hat and a cream ensemble who stopped the show in the palatial Emirates marquee to billionaire’s mistress Shari-Lea Hitchcock in a virginal cream dressed which she revved up with a black G-string underneath – it was see-thru of course. Hitchcock partied with gal pal, Lizzie Buttrose in Leona Edmiston’s marquee which was tricked up like a fairground.

Nick Giannopoulos flew in from Melbourne and headed straight to Enirates which had a communal hookah, a fountain and even henna tattooing. It was also the one tepee that Laura Csortan and her new boyfriend, Phil Cawood – who owns Ruby Rabbit - were reluctant to leave.
