Claire From Big Brother at Eve

Melbourne’s hottest nightclub and owner Nick Russian along with his brother, Daniel hosted some entry level celebutantes at Eve during the weekend including Big Brother’s Claire and Axle Whitehead - who seems to live there.

Lance Franklin also headed for the VIP mosh pit to see Tania Doko playing live with her new band, Joy Lab.

Wonder what was going on at boutique and at our new favourite Comme?

Andy Lee Wins Cleo Bachelor Of The Year

SDP_0877_1_.jpg

Andy Lee with a pal at an earlier occasion

When you’re hot, you’re hot - just ask Fox FM radio host, Andy Lee - one half of the Hamish and Andy duo who cleaned up on Thursday night by winning Cleo Bachelor of the Year at a celeb-strewn dinner at Tonic in Melbourne’s Crown complex.

The runners up were Hoime & Away actor, Paul O’Brien and NSW pro surfer Koby Abberton (my personal favourites were Sydney Freestyle MC, Julian Tobias) and the intensely handsome singer/songwriter George Byrne, who professes to liking women with curves. Hallelujah!)

Voting was orchestrated by a celeb judging panel that included - Amber Petty, Jo Stanley. Nicky Whelan, the dreaded Jemma Gawned and Cleo ed, Nedahl Stelio. They did well.

Just befor the announcement was made, guests were serenaded by David Campbell who sang tracks from his new album, Swing and made lots of new fans. The guy has still got it.

Vogue Entertaining & Travel Launch, Melbourne.

Frank and Sharon Van Haandel’s chic venue, Comme (on the site of the old Mietta’s in Alfred Place), was the perfect backdrop for the stylish launch of the new look VE&T. Star of the night was Amber Petty’s mum, Beverly Harper who lead an expedition of guests on a joy ride in the goods lift up to the kitchen. And proving that older women can be sexy she had Melbourne’s hottest bachelors David Briskin (sigh!) and Danny Cole (swoon!) chasing after her. You would have thought Bev was Paris Hilton holding an audition for her next video clip.

We loved the food at Comme - watermelon cubes stuffed with goat’s curd and olives (truly, they got all that in), scallops wrapped in pancetta on a pea and mint puree. Canape crisis? Certainly not at Comme on such a critical night with Simon Arkless in charge. The cocktail to match all this excess was Purple Rain - vodka, cranberry and passionfruit pulp. As for the floral decorations - they were by It foliage company, Joost.

Major puzzle of the night - what missive was the member of the Melbourne EC, texting so frantically to the EC clubhouse in Brighton. Something is definitely afoot.

And The Coolest Nightclub King is…

SDP_0846.jpg
Nick Russian of Eve with a friend.

Yes, it is Nick Russian of Melbourne’s lavish new nightclub Eve in Southbank. Russian scored the most votes by far and beat the list of contenders including Justin Hemmes (Hemmesphere), Phil Cawood (Ruby Rabbit), Dave Evans (Hugo’s) and Darren (Razzle) Thornburgh of Boutique .

According to our panel of judges including fragrant racing identity, Judy Romano, event supremo Wayne Noorman and dedicated diamond consumer, Gina G, the reader who best summed it up is Sal Leanne Marsden who pronounced Eve stylish and sophisticated while she said that Nick Russian himself was very good value. Sal Leanne wins a fab giftpack of Narcisso Rodriguez perfumes, courtesy of Cosmax. Congrats.

Emirates Suite Life

It was Girls Day Out on Saturday at Flemington and the place to be was clearly the Emirates Suite where the legendary Eddie Lim held court and gave some of the most interesting racing tips you will ever hear. If you are fortunate enough to come into contact with Eddie during the spring racing carnival be prepared to tell him your birth date if you want him to predict winning numbers for you.

Celeb Survivor internee, Amber Petty showed off her new boyfriend Teriu Le Mon and revealed that they are both living in Melbourne now. Meanwhile Tottie Goldsmith’s manager, Melissa Le Gear revealed that she is about to merge with Profile Talent who look after Hamish & Andy. And giving the day, the major seal of approval, Michael Gudinski dropped in to wish Lim well and get some hot racing tips…

John Curtin Digs In At Melbourne’s Hottest New Eatery

john_curtin_lauren_todorovic_lau.jpg

The intrepid John Curtin and Lauren Todorovic - how good does she look?

Gilbert and Michael Lau

For all those people who can never get it together to book days ahead at Flower Drum - there is now Son of Flower Drum - Lau’s Family Kitchen which had an exclusive, `soft’ opening for closest friends and relations on the weekend. This venue is even more accessible to the cool crowd since it is part of the Prince of Wales complex in Acland Street - and quite intimate with only 50 seats.

Just like the setting, the menu is rocked up a bit with calamari and fresh whiting along with all your Flower Drum’ favourites. Gilbert Lau’s son, Michael is running the place but Gilbert - the legendary A-list restauranteur will be making special guest appearances. Best of all, it will be open seven days a week from the official start of the business on Tuesday with no bookings.

Our intrepid, interstate correspondent John Curtin not only rated it highly but especially recommends the Pineapple Fried Rice. Guess that must be a Melbourne thing - in Sydney we gave up rice served in a pineapple at the same time as we kissed goodbye to the maraschino cherry.

EeeK! The Pineapple Rice.

PS) John, could you stop hanging out in restaurants and file that investigative report for the site you promised on the new wardrobe choices for top, white collar criminals. It’s way overdue - thanks Ros x
