Who says that hair care doesn’t rule the social circuit? These days, every second cocktail party is for another product launch or some other kind of festival of the blowdryer. On Sunday night, Melbourne’s Crown Palms was theg setting for the L’Oreal Professionel Colour Trophy Awards. The John Anthony Salon scooped the pool, Hamish & Andy entertained along with TV Rock (how much fun is Grant Smillie ? Wish he would come to Sydney) and Robbie Wiiliams ex-flatmate, UK hair gun Andrew Barton produced a total hair spectacular.

Sydney’s most committed A-listers can breathe a sigh of relief as chic department store David Jones is sending a squad of limousines to convey them to the August 9 fashion show at Wharf 8. What’s more, although the list has been significantly culled - most people won’t have to travel in their limos alone as most of the invitations are doubles. Phew! in the meantime, all eyes will be on the front row guest Mischa Barton - who will no doubt be one of many of those admiring Megan Gale on the runway..

What did the tea leaf reader Lizzie Rose see in uber designer Alannah Hill’s tea cup that made her make such a hurried exit from an event on the weekend. It was all happening at the fabulous new Melbourne furniture company, “Format” charity tea party on Saturday to raise funds for Open Family, Hill, who is dramatic at the best of times had quite an effect on the gypsy fortune teller who fled soon afterwards, in tears.
However Saturday’s event was just as fresh and fun as the baby cupcakes which were served on vintage stands with personalities including Jen Hansen and Renee Henderson who acted as celebrity tea ladies. Hosted by the ever courteous John Parker of Format, guests included Lianne Rossler, Carl Fender and David Clarke.
Were you there and did you overhear what was said to Alannah? Send your comments.
Rating: 6/10 for entertainment value incuding the Mac Makeup bar for touchups.

It’s the coolest Sydney service for all those celebutantes who don’t yet have a limo at their beck and call (how demoralising is it always trying to make your way up in the world?) For a mininal fee of $10 per booking and $3 per km, the designated driver arrives by your side and then conveys you and your car home. One well known fashionista was delighted to use the service when she was only a few blocks away from home. She had been having a drink wirh one of her neighbours which quickly became a champagne with voddie chaser binge. The thoroughly charming and discreet DD came to her aid. He will, of course, also travel much further afield - at most hours of the day and nightm although we don’t know how he would go on the drive out to Palmie. How does he get back? To book, simply call - 1300 765 112. It could certainly be one way of keeping your name out of columns like this for DUI…

The special guest of the mid week opening of Mecca cosmetics in the Melbourne blingside suburb of Brighton was Simone Warne, who confided to a special operative of this website that she never wants to do TV again. Nevertheless the petite blonde with two left feet was happy to jump on a plane on Friday to attend a Red Cross/No Idea event..Clearly there is a side of her that delights in the spotlight, despite telling one reporter that she plans to sue author, Paul Barry over the unauthorised biography of her semi-detached hubbie. Oh dear! Besides Simone, highlight of the evening was the presence of hot DJ - Andy McKinnon and the legendary Tony Touch Up - the Mecca inhouse makeup artist. Ouch!
Ratings: 7/10
Guest list: A bit light on Brighton’s well known Botox brigade - for obvious reasons - why waste time on skincare when you can have those wrinkles paralysed.
Drinks: Loved the Mecca Pink Panthers with Absolut Rasberry and the Croser sparkling - the catering was by the witty Leftovers.
Showbag: Full size samples of Mecca Velvet Glove Hand Hydrator (shame about the smell) and Philisophy White Chocolate Hazelnut 3-in 1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Simone Warne is looking good..
