Melbourne’ Update - Eve To Open at Southbank June 17

Eve at Southbank

Eve’s Red Dragon Room
This is a sneak preview of Eve - the nightspot and hot venue expected to liven things up at Melbourne’s Southbank from June 17. The man behind it is none other than Nick Russian who has spent a year trawling the word’s best clubs before coming up with this sexy venue. He was inspired by London’s Hakkasan Bar and L’Etoile in Paris. Interior designer, David Hicks was the man behind the $3 million fit out which includes five interconnected club spaces and an outdoor, undercover garden. Stay tuned for the rave reviews and the gossip worthy misbehaviour….

The Oz Premiere of The Break-Up - yep, another film review…

Billed as one of America’s hottest movies, written, produced and co-starring Vince Vaughn with partner (or not), Jennifer Aniston, The break up puts forward a convincing argument that Vince Vaughn should just stick to his day job and leave the script writing to the professionals.
More a series of vignettes than a gripping plot, once you have seen Vaughn’s full range of facial expressions there is no where else to go but alas - another good sixty minutes of the film to endure. I did admire Jennifer Aniston’s dry, laid back delivery - but that was only when she was being interviewed on stage before the film started. She also looked fantastic wearing a size six eloganted boob tube in black sparkles. (Whatever diet she is on at the moment, that’s the one I am going to follow).

The rest of Monday night’s Australian Premiere at the State Theatre, was taken up by swivelling around to see who else had braved the wet, cold conditions. It’s probably no surprise that the legendary show biz trouper, Kerri-Anne Kennerley turned up, or that Maria Venuti should be there. The Rubenesque entertainer was wearing a fake fur, pillbox hat (but she wisely disappeared before the film started - when all the photographers had gone home). There was also Richard Wilkins, Luke Mangan , Holly Brisley in the best embroidered suede coat, Lady (Sonia) McMahon with Bill Winning, and top person’s accountant - a trim Anthony Bell who has shed kilos right in time for winter. Maybe he has been on the Jennifer Aniston diet too?

So, should you bother going to see the break-up? Yes, if only for the cameo role of Judy Davis as the theatrical, man eating, art gallery director. She was sensational…

Luke Mangan Dishes On Salt In Tokyo

Fabled restaurateur Luke Mangan and business partner Lucy Allon have sold a share of their former flagship restaurant, Salt to a Japanese company. Salt Tokyo is due to open next year. It is part of the chef’s push for global domination, with other branches of Salt a possiblility in London and New York.

The deal in Japan is thought to have reached six figures which has certainly put a smile on Mangan’s face as he does the rounds at this new flagship joint in the Sydney Hilton hotel, Glass. (The caviar tasting plate there is a must). Meanwhile the man who famously prepared one of the Royal Danish wedding feasts is fine tuning his canapes  and his mains, in preparation for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s forthcoming nuptuals. This might just be his entree to Hollywood..

A Gossip Columnist’s Life …

What’s not to love about a perfume launch? It’s usually held at somewhere fabulously decadent with canapes themed to the bottle’s packaging and rivers of French champagne. So when a sophsticated blue invitation crossed my Sunday Telegraph desk announcing that Armani Code would be officially christened in that temple of haute couture - the Giorgio Armani store in Martin Place, I ran to the dry cleaners and picked up my cream Alex Perry tuxedo suit (it was a less obvious choice than wearing something from `GA’ - not that I had much of an option - not actually owning a `Giorgio’ ).

The first person I saw on arrival was marie claire editor, Jackie Frank who was dressed in fashionista collections’ combat gear - black or grey layers with sturdy black boots. This surprised me as fashion week is so over - so the famous fashion code which has the real professionals dressing for comfort and not worrying to change for the after parties, doesn’t hold. (Yep, this is a tip: the worst faux pas you can make is looking like you made too much of an effort for fashion week parties - it shows that you are not a serious fashion person - you are just plain fluffy. Only bona fide  celebutantes should get glammed up for fashion week. But I digress, here we were at an event starting at 7pm in a true designer store and here was Jackie Frank and even `Harper’s’ editor Alison Veness-McGourty dressed a la fashion week. Eeek!

Thank goodness for the Sydney platoon of beauty writers who love to dress up and look as if they have jumped from the pages of their own magazines. There was footy star’s Craig Wing’s girlfriend, Zoe Foster looking absolutely divine in a soft peach bubble dress with silver sparkles, Mary Zavaglia of Women’s Day in pearls and cream satin and the Sunday Telegraph’s Melinda Ayre in a retro peach dress. All of them along with uber model Anneliese Seubert and Cosmo’s appropriately sexy editor, Sarah Wilson looked as if they were going to a glamazon convention. It was quite a night but not nearly as opulent as the full blown scent launches of the Eighties. Now there’s a decade we should bring back as soon as possible.
This week it’s all about the Break Up premiere with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn on the red carpet - along with the Lancome Colour Design Awards on Friday night. Let’s hope that some of those hard working fashionistas think to go home and change for it - otherwise they’re going to look plain tragic…

Luke and Kate: Are They Playing For Keeps?

Kate Waterhouse Emirates Laura Csortan & Luke Ricketson.jpg

The fab couple are expected to step out tonight at a black tie fundraiser for the Police Boys Club joining a table hosted by real estate honcho James Dack but since racing royal Kate Waterhouse is planning a lengthy sojourn in Italy, who knows if they will still be together when she returns. After all former Roosters’ skipper Luke Ricketson, can hardly go galivanting around the world: He has to stay in Sydney and keep working on his fledging television career. Maybe he should put his hand up as the next host of Big Brother since Gretel Killeen seems to be losing it? (That Michael fracas - oh puhleese!)

Of course, Ricko, has also had a bit of a fatal attraction for women, ever since he whisked Deni Hines away from James Packer. This time, he seems to be taking it slowly - however Kate’s pals say that she is totally smitten. Either way, all eyes will be on Luke and Kate tonight….

No Names Plenty of Packdrill..

Which Sydney based TV honcho (who had a bit on board), wanted to know whether a flight attendant was sporting a fake tan?. After she responded that she was Spanish, he demanded a tummy reveal. Yup, Spanish..
