Feed The Man Steak - Neil Perry at Crown Casino

The builders are moving in to create the splashiest most glamorous steakhouse ever at Melbourne’s gambling hub, Crown Casino. Just in time for Melbourne Cup, the project is being sponsored by billionaire James Packer’s company PBL.  Neil Perry -the man with the restaurant trade’s most famous ponytail, is sending one of his best chefs from his signature eatery Rockpool to cook there. As one rival restaurateur commented - “it’s going to be much better than any kind of steakhouse you might find in Las Vegas'’. Hmm, I wonder how ordering a hugely unfashionable medium to well done steak will go down. Will I be told to leave?
Meanwhile celebrity rock group Coldplay were missing in action last night in Sydney. They were expected at Catalina at a dinner for 80 hosted by the one and only Chuggster - Michael Chugg but at the last minute they decided it was all too hard. Chuggster was left with just 40 at Catalina which would still be a massive bill by anyone’s standards.

The Little White Book launch at sexy De Nom

Sydney’s answer to boutique, De Nom at Ruby Rabbit was the setting for Thursday’s launch of the beauty editors’ bible - the little white book from beautydirectory.com.au.

It’s especially for those times when a beauty writer is engaged in an assignment away from her trusted  lap top. The LWB contains contact details for 63 agencies which deal in beauty products and countless inhouse publicists. Highlight of the night was the hunks giving hand messages - no really..!

Film Review No 3: Superman Returns

Superman Returns - you gotta love it. From the moment that the Superman’ theme booms through this speakers, you know that you’re in for a good ride. Bryan Singer’s hugely anticipated take on the klutziest superhero of all is fantastic with plenty of 1950s charm combined with great visual effects. Take that classic scene of superman intercepting a jet mid air (this one is on fire and comes with a space shuttle), but there’s a brilliant climax when he lands it in the middle of a baseball game. Kate Bosworth also makes a convincingly tough but fragile Louis Lane and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor is a triumph. (That guy can never put a foot wrong).
Brandon Routh as Superman certainly looks the part but I found him less than engaging. I kept being distracted by silly things like his eyebrows which looked too fake to me. (When he scooped up Louis Lane from the rooftop of the Daily Planet, I really wanted someone from makeup to apply the eyebrow brush and soften the lot down). Ian Roberts, as one of Lex Luthor’s henchmen, was also disappointing because he didn’t have the sort of menacing presence we have come to expect from the former footballer. There was no bronzed, gleaming muscles, no deadly stares just a frown that seemed in serious need of some Botox. Parker Posey, as Lex’s girlfriend, Kitty, was also a bit predictable. The role should have gone to someone else with better comic timing. Nevertheless this bitter sweet story of Superman’s return to Earth, is definitely worth a visit to the cinema, soon.
