Usually fashion week is dead on its designer heels by Saturday but this year there was plenty of action still happening with lots of great labels on the runway including Alice McCall, Anna & Boy and Cohen et Sabine - to name but a few.
Ian Thorpe turned up, while serial celebrity model, Tiffani Wood showed off her new look at the Leona Edmiston’ show. The pouty frockateer scored an after-bash sponsored by In Style Magazine at the Imperial Peking which may have been a sweet victory since her former design partner, Peter Morrissey didn’t have a show at all. Eeek!. Even celebrity minder, Maria Farmer made an appearance on Saturday - no doubt ready to assist if any show business types needed protection from the pesky media toting this season’s hottest accessory - a drug testing kit. Meanwhile one of the most surprising looks of the week was Nova’s Tim Ross in a shirt, collar and tie. He looked just like a school boy..

On Friday night at the Tight Nickers show, the entire place was buzzing about the news of Erica Baxter ’s split from billionaire businessman, James Packer, who has suddenly zoomed right up to the top of the most eligibile list in Oz. With some of the more shallow fashionistas (yes, it is possible to be more lightweight than a member of the fab fash pack) already wondering whether there was enough time to make it to Scientology headquarters after the show, much attention was placed on the Baxter visage. Did she look cut to as many ribbons as the Tight Nickers outfit she was wearing? No, actually she handled herself with aplomb. Some people are blaming the relationship glitch on Snoop Dogg’s over familiarity with a woman set to become a Sydney social royal - others are saying that perhaps she was more taken with Kabalah than Scientology ..Maybe it was a little bit of everything? Your comments please.

The enticing tales are still filtering out following the recent Great Gatsby party at the signature Palm Beach mansion, Kahlua, owned by the enigmatic Ian Joye and often rented out to visiting celebs at $30,000 a week. (John Cleese was one of the latest to stay there over Christmas). Guests arrived and left by limo - sometimes in very surprising combinations - while some of the cocktails packed quite a punch… However above all else, it was a chance for many on the social circuit to dress up and feel decadent..

Was it just a clever marketing move that the models at fashion week were playing with PSP players. Cute huh? But why not XBox 360s which could have been installed in the dull VIP lounge during the long days when everyone was bored picking each other to pieces while smiling? Did you see those shoes? How tragic were they etc etc.

Introducing Brandusa Niro - the blonde of a certain age who was a special guest at fashion week and the editor of the IMG publication The Daily Mini - which is printed in New York. `Brandi’ who had a great Eastern European kinda accent swept in and out for a couple of days and saw all the Sydney hot spots including dinner at Icebergs yada yada yada.. No word yet on whether she did Bridge Climb. There was a lunchtime party for her in the Motorola Fashion Week lounge with baby mugs of parsnip soup and Oz piccolos - but the whole thing was puzzling …Brandi was just not your average New York style fashionista ..even allowing for the accent, she had none of the chat and she wasn’t covered in logos. She would have been instantly rejected for that international fashion gun role by Central Casting. So what was she really about? And why was she constantly surrounded by so many nervous MAFW staffers including Simon Lock? And what’s with that mini daily mag - that is only published once during the week? I left before the speeches and a second mini mug of soup..But if anyone out there `got her’, please explain? Post me ros@rosreinesgossip.com.
